New Chevrolet Crossover Reportedly in Development
General Motors has previously announced intentions to capitalize on the popular crossover market. While the company already has several, such as Cadillac’s Escalade and XT5 as well as Chevrolet’s Equinox and Traverse, GM has intentions of introducing more of the segment to the mix. Cadillac will be receiving a new nameplate, while a new Chevrolet crossover will also make an appearance, slotted between the aforementioned Equinox and Traverse.
Reports say that the crossover being developed for Chevy will share underpinnings with the new Cadillac XT5, with some experts theorizing it could have features in common with the to-be-imported Buick Envision. Chevrolet has plans to move the next-generation Traverse upmarket, making a more comfortable gap for the new mid-size crossover to fit into the lineup. In addition, Cadillac recently announced plans to introduce a new entry-level crossover to the brand.
While the Chevy Traverse is nearing the end of its current generation, the Equinox’s updates for the 2016 model year have made it wildly popular among consumers. Demand for a new Chevrolet crossover that fits somewhere between the two is expected and appreciated by drivers who don’t need the space of the eight-passenger Traverse, but need something a bit larger than the Equinox.
